following is the message i got from dmesg:
ipmi_kcs: SPMI table not found.
ipmi_kcs: No KCS @ port 0x0ca2
ipmi_kcs: Unable to find any KCS interfaces
What does this mean, Matt??

Does using 'pnpacpi=off' on the kernel command line help?
Did you patch the kernel with the patches at http://openipmi.sf.net
for 2.4.x, or use a stock kernel that doesn't have those (necessary)
patches?
The PE2850 does indeed use KCS.
