Frank,
I stand corrected. It appears to be establishing the session
(successfully even), but the terminal data send/receive must be the
problem.
I don't know what the format is for that, and I don't know who coded it.
The data packet format would have to be OEM-specific in IPMI 1.5, so
perhaps Tyan could help (?).

Subject: RE: [Ipmitool-devel] question for ipmi v1.5 tsol
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for replying. I am using ipmitoo 1.8.9, and in the man page it
says:
========================================================================
=======
tsol
This command allows Serial-over-LAN sessions to be
established
with Tyan IPMIv1.5 SMDC such as the M3289 or M3290. The
default
command run with no arguments will establish default SOL
session
back to local IP address. Optional arguments may be
supplied in
any order.
...
========================================================================
=======
That's why I am trying to use it because I have the M3289 SMDC.
Furthermore,
when I try to use it, it seems to work:
====================================================================
-bash-2.05b$ ipmitool -I lan -H 10.16.2.37 tsol
Password:
[Starting SOL with receiving address 10.16.2.23:6230]
[SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help]
~?
Supported escape sequences:
~. - terminate connection
~B - send a BREAK to the remote system
~C - open a command line
~R - Request rekey (SSH protocol 2 only)
~^Z - suspend ssh
~# - list forwarded connections
~& - background ssh (when waiting for connections to terminate)
~? - this message
~~ - send the escape character by typing it twice
(Note that escapes are only recognized immediately after newline.)
======================================================================
But I don't see the terminal, and it doesn't response to any linux
commands. (I
can only use the escape keys, but they don't give me a terminal either)
It
seems that this commands is quite obscure to the rest of the community.
Do you
(or any one) know who wrote this part of ipmitool?
thanks,
-Frank

Frank,
I don't have a Tyan SMDC, but my understanding is that "ipmitool
tsol",
like "ipmitool isol", was written to configure its 1.5 SOL interface,
but not start the SOL console.

Hi Corey,
Yes, but ipmitool has a function tsol, which is written for the Tyan
IPMIv1.5
SMDC to establish serial-over-lan. We have a Tyan IPMIv1.5 SMDC. The
ipmi
system is setup, and we can remote manage. However, when we use the
tsol
command, nothing seems to happen: we cannot see the remote terminal,
nor
does
it seems to respond to keyboard commands. Do you (or anyone) have any
advice
for using the _ipmitool tsol_ command?
best,
-Frank

SoL is not supported on IPMI 1.5 systems.

Hi all,
This is a question about the tsol function. So I have a Tyan s2882D
motherboard
with a management daughter card, M3289. The management daughter card
supports
ipmi v1.5. and I am trying to use the tsol function. The connection
works, but
I can't get any thing to happen. I saw a few forums online asking
about the
very same problem, but didn't see an answer. So how do I for example
see the
current monitor output with tsol?
