Federico,

It sounds like it is time to call HP support to find out if this Aelita
Software BMC on the HP DL 140 really supports IPMI 1.5 LAN, or just some
non-standard subset of that.  
If it does, then HP must know what the configuration tricks are to set
it up.

Nothing to do: other trials, other failures.
It seems that each way has been explored, both on eth0 end eth1 ifaces:

 - setting a third IP for the BMC
 - sharing IP with the NIC
 - etc. etc.

I'm wondering: is it possible that something is missing from the kernel?
to avoid possible doubts, I activated *all* under IPMI, Hardware
Monitoring Support and I2C.
