I'd add tht MUST is primarily a tool for insuring
that different implementations will interoperate.
Route optimization doesn't meet that criteria since
it is, after all, an optimization. If it's a MUST,
it would be for, essentially, global policy reasons
(death of net, film at 11...). I don't think we have
enough information to really make that kind of
pronouncement though. MIP isn't the only one creating
dog-leg routing on the net these days: VPN's do the
same thing. Indeed, VPN+MIP seems like it would be
a fairly common deployment scenario. Does route
optimization even buy you anything in that case?
