  | Site local addresses save your from renumbering if you change ISP.

They don't avoid renumbering, but they save my internal network
connections from the side-effects of he renumbering.

  | They don't help if you merge two networks. Subnet ID may collide.

That's certainly true - but a merge like this can be, and needs to
be planned, and can take as long as required to be executed. What's
more I get to decide which internal bits of the two (or more) nets
get renumbered, and which bits get to retain their old numbers.

And of course, this only ever happens when the site owner chooses to
have it happen (two organisations that merge can run their net as
two separate IPv6 "sites" if they choose), unlike an external
renumbering, which could be caused by your ISP altering its point
of connection to the topology and having to renumber itself, and all
its clients (and going to a different ISP doesn't save you in many
cases, as you'd have to renumber to do that as well).
