The stream is not amplified, it is still a single stream, and it is only one
packet at a time that has to wait for reception before being reflected back.
The total traffic volume over a given path may be higher, but this is not a
multiplication of the number of streams.
The packets are not replicated and as you said the amount of traffic
between the link is amplified.  It seems to be clearly stated in the
dictionary.

Amplify =  to make larger or greater (as in amount, importance, or
intensity) . http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/amplify

So fix it by restricting the number of waypoints. Killing it only prevents
valid uses.
I have added a draft that puts in checks to reduce such traffic
amplification, for exactly the purpose you state.
