Bill,

I was line of sight from the house, plus both the transmitter & the R8
were using verticals, except mine was higher. At the top of the tree, a
person could probably view the area the house was in to the NNW, no
hills to go over. There was a Drive In in Gearhart 6 miles South that
used 100 mw and I could get that here also. That wasn't line of sight,
but I better antenna & ground. At the time, I could have QSL'd the
transmitter, as I knew the guy that has the Drive In, but never did.
Today, I would. But, I have heard of QSL's from Talking Houses through
real estate outfits. My lowest power QSL, is one I did myself for a
pirate I had in the 70s, about 1/2 watt. I also have a couple carrier
current college stations QSL'd. One was 2 watts (SLC) and the other was
1 watt (Sacramento). In both cases, for extended coverage, they ran 10
feet of wire out on the floor by the transmitter I also have a 1 watt
TIS from San Diego. So it doesn't take a lot of power to get out if cx
are good. Probably my best, is a 3.5 watt TIS QSL from Texas on 1670
operated by a Fire Dept.

73,

Patrick
