In this threads vein I recall returning from the IRCA Convention in
Vancouver (New Westminster) in (I think) 1970. Four of us were in a
relatively new sedan driven by Dave Prather, the other two were Don
Kenney & I believe Ed Krejny. We were following Mike & Saralie Northam
who were driving a cool sports car (red with top down). Mike had a 'Ho
Chi Minh' goatee & Saralie was dressed in her hippie best. We were
right behind them as we came to the toll gates at the Blaine crossing.
We were laughing about how Mike & Saralie would be checked out in full,
especially since the guard looked like a 'B-Grade Lee Marvin'. Oddly
enough after a short exchange of words the guard waived them through and
then stopped us and made us get out of the car. He checked the front
seats then the back seats and then the trunk. We were no doubt saved by
the fact that when the trunk opened the B-Lee was greeted by the sight
of a trunkload of dirty and somewhat smelly clothes. Afterall we were
all bachelors at the time. He took one look at that and grudginly waved
us through the gates and back home. True story.

P.S. We always suspected but never could prove that Mike told the guard
we were smuggling m-j across the border :-)...

TSA people are very inconsistent; they are all over the place. When we
left Seattle for LA last June, the guy must have been in line for a
promotion based on how many pounds of toiletries he could collect
(prescription drugs and all). On the way back, the LA people were cool.
I generally don't have any problems with radios and cassette players
but they do get very excited over loop antennas.
