Paul, Sure, you can "hear" a station with 10 watts 5 miles or 10miles, but not at S9+55DB!!!! 47 watts at 5 miles is not going to give you S9+55DB directly from an EWE antenna to a receiver, unless you have "alot" of amplication to push that S meter up. If the station was operating with 5 KW rather than 1 KW, the drop between the two would be small, but not down to 47 watts!
