Point taken.  However, I was not attacking Ms. Byrne (as I was at pains to 
point out several times), nor am I hostile to her, as my previous comments 
testify.  And I agree with Awesome_Marcos1 that things have improved - as I 
have said, I am not blaming the Federation.  I suppose what is at issue here is 
the attitude of the ISC -  and its equivalents abroad - to minority sports, 
especially ones which are statistically unlikely to produce Olympic champions.  
I do not question Ms. Byrne's talent as a fencer, but the more fencers you have 
trying for a place in the Olympics, the more likely it is that one of them will 
qualify; and the more you have in the Olympics, the more likely it is that one 
of them will do well - which is partly why France, Italy etc. produce so many 
champions.  Time to start directing my vitriol at the ISC, I suppose.   All the 
same, it would be nice if Ms. Byrne would come to Ireland once in a while, just 
to provide Irish fencing with an international-level 'star', which would 
certainly help the promotion of the sport at home...
