Email Processing Vulnerability in Sendmail

Synopsis:

ISS X-Force is researching a public report of an email header processing buffer
overflow vulnerability in Sendmail. This report was made public on March 29,
2003. Unpatched versions of Sendmail are vulnerable to a flaw in the header
processing routine that validates addresses inside email messages. The buffer
overflow condition can be triggered if a specially crafted long email address
is supplied within an email message.

Impact:

X-Force is actively researching the vulnerability to determine the exact nature
and scope of the issue. The initial vulnerability report indicates that local
exploitation is possible, and remote compromise is suspected. X-Force has
determined that significant barriers to reliable remote compromise exist.

Please refer to the complete X-Force Alert for the latest information.
