I see the latest PR has 67 files changed. Changes that large make me nervous. I
also see that I contradicted myself - 3 1/2 years ago I suggested adding
arguments to the operator, which [~Chunwei Lei] did in the first PR, and last
week I said it would be better to add arguments to the call.
Let's press the pause button, stop writing code, and agree upon a design.
