I am not sure that relying on log4j is well suited for ACM. Beside the fact 
that it introduce a quite bulky dependency, the main problem I see is that it 
generate a lot of I/O that may be an issue for some use cases, for instance
 * Embedded applications
 * CPU intensive applications

To cut short to the discussion, I would agree to remove the DebugMode option 
and store the trajectory all the time. They do not take that much memory.
