Gilles Sadowski commented on COMMONSSITE-179:
---------------------------------------------

bq. [...] registering the [Commons] bare name would be challenging [...]

I wasn't even dreaming about suggesting that.

bq. Referring to the project as "ASF Commons" whether in the text or the logo
dilutes the trademark protection of the project because neither "ASF",
"Commons" nor "ASF Commons" are registered trademarks and it suggests that the
full name is "ASF Commons" rather than "Apache Commons". It is hard to claim a
product's name as a trademark if the product isn't named consistently.

To be clear (repeating myself too), I didn't suggest that the official <project
name> should be anything else than the official project's name, only that we
don't _overuse_ (so to speak) "Apache". Just like the official name of the ASF
is "The Apache Software Foundation" but the shorthand is now in widespread use
(for a very specific reason), "ASF Commons" is _shorthand_ for "The Apache
Software Foundation's Commons project". "ASF's Commons" is short enough too,
if you'd prefer (with your VP hat on).

bq. My very strong recommendation is that if a project wants to include the
project name in their logo then they either use "<Project>" or "Apache
<Project>" and do not use "ASF <Project>"

OK, that is quite clear.
Hence the logo (if reduced to a "wordmark") should be similar to one that has
been in use for years (i.e. no mention of "Apache"). Right?
