(Sadly) There isn't an agreed on convention.
When you asked, when I asked, people said they didn't care much (about
consistency).
That's why I wrote *de facto* consensus (i.e. based on the number of
occurrences). From which I conclude that people who like consistency should
either adopt the most common usage or be ready to correct all the Javadoc
according to the a new usage.
