Yes, the guidelines (common to all components) are somewhat outdated (or not
adapted for each specific component).
I've added a "defaultGoal" target in the "pom.xml" file; so just running
{noformat}
$ JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64 mvn
{noformat}
(with no explicit goal) will also run "checkstyle" and fail the build; the
errors will be printed on the console (i.e. the default goal does not generate
the HTML reports).
