A copyright notice is not required under US copyright law (although it is
useful to know when copyright expires). If it was me I'd go with ASF policy
here and if they insist on putting it somewhere put it in the README or
similar, but INAL and you may want to ask on legal discuss. I know of no other
project that updates the year of copyright for the company contributors are
employed by in this way. Perhaps it need to be made clear to the project
contributions come from individuals not companies (even if IBM has granted use
under the ALv2 and retains copyright)? Out of interest did IBM sign a CCLA?
