Make requested changes.
The changes here were the simplest, mechanical changes I could make to
remove the many rawtypes warnings and the error which Eclipse flagged.
@vvysotskyi, think of this as one possible way to temporarily solve the raw
types issues. Please suggest better solutions, push a commit with your
improvements, or offer an alternative PR.
