   @paul-rogers, moving the discussion into another place is a good idea. 
Perhaps we can continue it in a Jira to preserve our ideas for other 
contributors.
   
   Regarding the additional changes, I think we should merge this PR to avoid 
errors in Eclipse and continue the release process since it was already 
postponed a lot due to metastore issues...
