I'm on board with not harding code defaults. But that theme setting is just the
tip of the iceberg. Your goal of having the defaults be separately
configurable without changing code is being done today. If air-config.xml would
have specified a theme then everyone would have been happy.
I like the idea of flex-config.xml being the base file and air-config.xml or
airmobile-config.xml just overriding what settings are different. But I don't
think it is worth spending time on that right now when there are real bugs to
fix. I recommend we just add the theme to air-config.xml, remove the theme from
DefaultsConfigurator and move on the next bug.
