It looks like dp is the same as "pt" unit.
Point (pt) is by definition 1/72 inch, so it's also a physical unit, but in a 
different unit (at least, that's my understanding).

Web css usually accepts cm, in, and pt (and other more esoteric units, such as 
em).
So it could be an interesting simplification (on the technical side) to only 
accept pt as the physical unit.
Not sure pt/dp are easier to understand or use than inches / cm.
What do you think?
