Jacob S. Barrett commented on GEODE-52:
---------------------------------------
Keep in mind that the repository does not have any history in it. Using the
blame logs for near future is pointless. The author tags are the only hints to
the author of a chunk of code until enough revisions are made to make the blame
logs more useful. The only way the community will know who to direct certain
questions to will come from these tags. I would suggest leaving the tags in
place for at least the next year before purging them to help foster the
community.
> Remove @author tags from Java source

>
> Apache generally frowns on @author tags (as they imply ownership of the code
> by a single individual, see
> https://blogs.oracle.com/ahe/entry/coding_conventions_and_attribution [best
> asf link is not working, annoyingly] and
> https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/AVRO/How+To+Contribute as an
> example)
