Vandana Ayyalasomayajula commented on HBASE-11376:

we are already generating completely random keys, which should fill all the
regions if the region splits are proper. I fail to see why current schema will
not fill all the regions. Maybe there is something else wrong? Not enough row
keys generated?
{quote}
If we are starting with single region and performing auto splits as the keys
get inserted, then agreed the randomly generated keys will fill in all regions.
But if we want to mimic real use cases, the tables are usually pre-split and we
don't know how the region boundaries look like. When I used the ITBLL for >
3000 regions, lot of regions were empty. So, I used the logic in the patch
attached to get the keys random yet distributed to all the regions.

> IntegrationTestBigLinkedList's Generator tool does not generate keys
> belonging to all regions in a large table.

> When IntegrationTestBigLinkedList's generator tool is used to generate keys
> to a large table ( 2200 regions), only some regions have keys and others are
> empty. It would be good to generate keys to all the regions of the table.
