Andrew Purtell commented on HBASE-13339:

bq. In theory we could simply call 1.1 2.0 instead and would not have broken
any promises

That's an option. If we release 1.1 as 2.0 now, and therefore renumber trunk to
3.0, and make the default Hadoop version 2.6.0 for HBase 2.0, then any funky
issues with Hadoop dependencies are not an issue.

> Current default Hadoop version is getting a little long in the tooth. We
> should update to the latest version. The latest version is backwards
> compatible with 2.5.1's dfs and mr so this should be painless.
