Sean Busbey commented on HBASE-13339:

Should we also ensure that users can still build HBase using the earliest
Hadoop version specified as dependency on the HBase release line? eg a user can
build any 1.x with -Dhadoop-two.version set to what shipped with 1.0?
{quote}
We already make sure we can build with each version marked S in the table in
test-patch, so that's probably enough. It'd be nice to have the post-commit
tests matrix in those versions as well.

> Current default Hadoop version is getting a little long in the tooth. We
> should update to the latest version. The latest version is backwards
> compatible with 2.5.1's dfs and mr so this should be painless.
