I think the issue is if someone coded static method invocation Filter.<method>
instead of super.<method>. It's technically a binary compatibility break. I
want to make sure it gets wide exposure for discussion. I'd like to place a
"soft veto" on commit of this to 1.x until we have another opinion. I don't
have a strong opinion on this.
