I prefer we just include this in branch-1 and branch-1.4. If the release
managers for other branch-1.x lines want to include this fix then they could
try to find a way to address the compatible problems. Binary compatible is a
very strong requirement and not easy to achieve especially for a big patch
which touches existing code a lot...
