Elliott Clark commented on HBASE-8015:
--------------------------------------
bq.Should we support cross-namespace constructs ? If so, namespace would be
exposed to user.
>From my point of view the most important usability concern should be the java
>api, with thrift second. My proposal would allow cross namespace very easily
>by just creating two different HTable's in different namespaces.
The shell is nice but it's just a convenience utility. We shouldn't make the
most used case harder or more confusing chasing some dream of having a sql
shell. In my opinion since HBase is not Oracle's 11g, it shouldn't value being
like their sql.
bq.We need to expose it mainly for backwards compatibility.
Can you talk a little about this. I thought the examples I posted showed we
could be backwards compatibile by adding an optional paramter (htable would be
treated in a very similar manner).
