After HTRACE-101, we need guard such as
{code}
ts = Trace.startSpan("MySpan");
if (ts != NullSpan.INSTANCE) {
Span s = ts.detach();
...
}

or
{code}
if (Trace.isTracing()) {
Span s = Trace.startSpan("MySpan").detach();
...
}
{code}
in order to avoid RuntimeException on detach.
