In this context, skipping when it's null doesn't make sense to me.
This would mean we're trying to build a MetricsConfig with a schema and a
spec, where the spec references a source ID that doesn't actually exist in the
schema. If we're trying to require collecting stats, then we wouldn't be able
to build a valid MetricsConfig.
So, I think we should fail here if findColumnName returns null.
