500 bundles isn't really that much. Install servicemix or fuse, they come with
camel and a bunch of components, cxf, and some other framework bundles. They
are pushing 500 bundles without any user code installed.
Memory profile is fine, we use a couple hundred megs, but allocate 500+. The
real issue is the classloaders holding onto the bundle jar files and keeping
open file descriptors. I was looking at creating a modified classloader that
would just read the classes, then release the file handle until it was needed.
