Ishan Chattopadhyaya commented on SOLR-14066:
---------------------------------------------

DIH promotes an anti-pattern, i.e. search engine pulling data from a database
instead of the other way around. It would've been good if DIH could be run
outside of Solr, and it pushed documents into Solr; I'd have supported
maintaining DIH in that scenario.

I think Jan's message is on point; it will be a good candidate for being a
package.

Minor nitpick, Jan, I think the message should mention "DataImportHandler"
instead of "Data Import Handler" for better SEO.

> DataImportHandler has outlived its utility. DIH doesn't need to remain inside
> Solr anymore. Let us deprecate DIH in 8.4 (and remove it from the Solr distro
> in 9x or 10x).
