I think we've got our priorities backwards. I think we should:
# Deprecate it first,
# Turn into package by 9.0,
# Remove from the distribution by 9.0 and have the package by 9.0.
If we wait for this to be turned into a package first and then deprecate it, we
might give users very little time to be mentally prepared.

If someone wants, DIH can be packaged similarly.
