Thanks - I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this. If it helps I just installed LibreOffice 4 and the problem is still present in that too. It definitely started with the "enhanced" print dialogue introduced in 3.3 3.2.1 has the old dialogue and all is well (with the same physical printers).
