I agree that it is useful to avoid having to muck with the User Profile,
especially if it is likely not the source of the problem.  

A suggestion: Don't delete the user profile.  Rename the folder with your
profile.  On Windows, it will be the folder "user" on path
"...\OpenOffice\4\user". Then AOO will automatically generate a new default
one.

Don't make any modifications to the new profile.

See if you can replicate the problem with a new file.  Or a copy of one that is
already a problem.  Just don't save over any of your existing ones.

If you can reproduce the problem with the generated default profile, you can
delete the generated one and rename your previous one back for continued use.  

If the problem disappears with the generated profile, sit tight and we can
check some things to see what the difference is.  That will take some careful
forensic work that we can guide you through.
