 Review comment:
   I'm on vacation so will look into it more towards the end of this week.
   
   I think it's ok except that it will imply that all spi impls have (only) the 
same dependencies passed in - so it definitely won't work for everything. I can 
see if it can work for these 2, and if there are others that seem more 
problematic will try to surface those sooner than later.
