Rebased onto `main` to clear the conflict with the merged `rename_branch` (#942) — the branch is mergeable again. No behavior change from the last review round: the branch-qualified source resolution and the REST refusal (the two [P2]s) are unchanged; the force-push is purely the rebase (squashed onto current `main`).
