Chris M. Hostetter commented on SOLR-16498:
-------------------------------------------
{quote}.... conceptually I understand what a {{SolrClient}} is, and why I would
get a URL from it more then I understand what a {{JettySolrRunner}} is.
{quote}
Would you feel better conceptually if we renamed {{JettySolrRunner}} to
{{SolrNodeTestProcess}} or something like that? ... obviously that's a much
bigger change, but the name is just a historical relic of when solr _proper_
tried to be webapp agnostic, and {{JettySolrRunner}} was a specific example of
running solr inside jetty for testing purposes.
{quote}There are a bunch of other tests that do a cast to {{HttpSolrServer}}
just for the URL, and maybe they all have a JettySolrRunner we could use?
{quote}
I assume you mean {{HttpSolrClient}} ? .. any solr test that has an
{{HttpSolrClient}} by definition has a {{JettySolrRunner}} (or two or N...)
running inside of it. If it doesn't then WTF URL is the {{HttpSolrClient}}
pointing to?

> SOLR-16368 could not switch many tests away from some legacy/deprecated
> SolrClient classes because they were either getting the URL or Apache
> HttpClient instance out of the client. This issue aims to solve this so that
> our tests don't depend on a legacy client and don't depend on Apache
> HttpClient either. We would prefer a non-dependency approach using [Java
> 11's new
> HttpClient|https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/11/docs/api/java.net.http/java/net/http/package-summary.html].
> And we need to figure out how to get the URL from the SolrClient in a more
> general way.
