[~ankurd]  Thanks for commenting here; just catching up now.  As Ankur said, he 
and Reynold are working on using Spark SQL to back graph processing.  W.r.t. 
Python, using DataFrames will make it much easier to provide Java and Python 
APIs.

It's true that graph processing is more esoteric than other parts of Spark, but 
I do think it's useful enough to keep in Spark and may become more widespread 
as tools improve.
