I can mark a single word or a single character, go to Format > Character > Tab Font Effect, set 'Effect' to 'none', and I get the lower case character. I can setup a character style with 'effect' set to 'none' (verify in Organizer tab!). When I apply the style to the character or word, I get lower case too.
