I fail to see how purchasing a $50 book online, waiting 6-8 business
days for delivery, and spending the next week reading it would "save me
a lot of time". I'm just using itext to generate and stitch together a
couple of simple pages. If the library and api are worth anything, I
shouldn't need to read a book for that.

And I merely asked for a nudge in the right direction, "suggestions or
links to pages I might read". I looked through the faq and api before
posting, and I wasn't asking for anyone to do my homework for me.

Of course it's "perfectly understandable" to someone familiar with the
library. The point is that it's not obvious to someone new.
http://api.itextpdf.com/com/itextpdf/text/pdf/PdfContentByte.html#addTemplate(com.itextpdf.text.pdf.PdfTemplate,

float, float, float, float, float, float) just says "Adds a template to
this content." and each argument is only described as "an element of the
transformation matrix". With this kind of weak documentation, is one to
immediately buy and read the book, or perhaps just ask for a quick
pointer on a mailing list first.

You've got a bit of an attitude problem, conveniently hidden behind an
anonymous email address and an unsigned reply.

Good luck!
