OK, I misunderstood.
So you are creating a PDF with a BaseFont, and you want to use that same 
font in the Chart.

Hmm, I've succeeded in adding a ttf font to the appropriate directory so 
that I could create a java.awt.Font, but I don't have any experience 
doing this with a Type 1 font. I'm not sure if that is even possible.

I think you will. It's a matter of putting the font in the right 
directory so that the JVM can see it.
