Hello Leonard,

I attached the PNG in my original post. Here it is again along with the PDF:

http://itext-general.2136553.n4.nabble.com/file/n3828300/image-pdf.zip
image-pdf.zip

I didn't say that the image has 4 component data (is this even possible in
PNG?). The data is 3 component RGB, but the embedded ICC profile uses a CMYK
color space.

As I said, I'm no expert - but it seems to me that the rendering software
shouldn't simply assume that the profile is compatible. It should check, and
use a sensible fallback if there is a problem. Couldn't the image be
rendered as if there were no profile?

Anyway, I don't want to get diverted into issues of software quality. Since
neither Reader nor Acrobat give me any useful diagnostic information, I'm
just looking for some way to confirm that the image is invalid, and a way to
detect such images in future so I can exclude them.
