It prints just fine.

The only reason that it doesn't display is that you have the "Hilight existing
fields" option turned on in Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If you turn that off (the
button in the purple bar at the top of the window) then the yellow displays
just fine.

Here is an example file. On page 3, the address block field should be shaded
yellow. The color is in the field when you click in it, but it needs to be
displayed and printable. It does display and print in non-Adobe readers.

The field background colors are not displayed in any version of Adobes Acrobat
reader. The only "full" version I have is Acrobat 7.

Note the word DRAFT there. That means you are using a VERY OLD version of
Adobe Acrobat (7, IIRC).

Upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat and try it with a MODERN validation
tool.

I have updated my code base to iText 5.1.3 version and the problem still
exists. When I run the analyze on the generated PDF, I get an error with
regards to "appearance".

Used profile: "Compliant with PDF/A (Draft)" - AP (appearance) contains only N
entry is not true (296 matches on 10 pages)

I am setting the needAppearance option to true.

Could the the problem be that I am merging a collection of PDF files together
and the last one in overrides the settings? I am also not seeing permissions or
PDF properties like version/title/author getting retained.

I am creating a PDF version 1.7 with needAppearance of true, setting
title/author etc, then merging in a collection of other PDF files. The
resulting PDF does not show any of these properties. What is the proper order
to set these properties on a collection of merged forms?
