it could have been. I changed it to security=none before I updated.  I
don't recall it being there in the extlinux menu when I rebooted.  You may
be right.  I'm on a new image now and running into other issues, but at
least it mostly boots.

Rusty, even if it's not a kernel update issue, does that mean that there is
still no risk to having any zypper update b0rk your system?
