I have successfully been able to boot that image [1] on my NDiS-166 box with no modifications at all which would indicate that the image itself is just fine.
A bit of research indicated that the Thinkpad T420 machine may have issues with GPT... so at this stage I would try the vere same USB stick on another platform just to double-check that.
