Just checked my debian:
it really runs with linux-2.6.15 & ivtv-0.4.2...
On gentoo I already tried several hotplugs & udevs & tons of
locations for the firmware (though my FIRMWARE_DIR points to
/lib/firmware...)
My enc-fw has a different checksum, but I guess that's not the problem...:

modprobing with debug 511 gives me a similar output, but I get additional
tons of "ivtv0 i2c: write/read XX" lines
