I spoke too soon - after the first reboot, the card fails again.

Same for a new built 2.5.16.18 kernel too.

Can anyone help? Should I compile a kernel with i2c debugging and post some
output? I really don't know anything about i2c!

Built and installed a vanilla 2.6.16.16 kernel, patched with:
http://www.paldo.org/paldo/sources/linux-2.6/linux-2.6.16.16-no-unit-at-a-time-1.patch.bz2

it seems to have fixed the i2c problem.

Thanks for the suggestion!

This solution worked for me for the PVR-350. I had to recompile the kernel.
Also I am using a clean 2.6.16.16 kernel not the FC5 kernel.

Disabling -funit-at-a-time when building the kernel helps. Didn't find a
fix to make it work with enabled -funit-at-a-time, though.
