If it works, don't upgrade. Ever since I've moved from 0.3 to 0.4 one of my two cards has stopped working and I can't get it to work no matter what I do. I regret the whole kernel upgrade/ivtv upgrade thing I did on a whim. Personally I think it is a real shame that these modules are so closely tied to kernel versions, but I guess that is just the Linux way. The lack of backward compatibility seems to be endemic to Linux as a whole, at least when compared to (IMHO) more mature operating systems like BSD.
At any rate, don't equate upgrading Linux kernels with overall improvements to your system unless there is something specific you need to fix.
