Hi all,

I also have a problem with firmware loading, I had a USB camera plugged
in when booting my machine and it was loaded before the ivtv drivers and
so meant that the video devices numbers changed.

In older versions of the ivtv driver it loaded its firmware so the video
device drivers could be modprobed in a set order, ie ivtv could be
loaded before bttv drivers. Now the ability of the ivtv driver to load
its own has been removed and relies on udevd to load the firmware mean a
randomness of video devices which is a bit of a pain.

One solution is that the video drivers could be blacklisted and
modprobed after udev has started.
A second solution is that some udev rules could be written to link the
devices to some other name. (but I'm rather found of /dev/videoX as the
device name as it represents what it is.)

I'm just wondering if anyone has a better solution for this problem and
what it is?

TIA
Duncan
